Tube Cleaning

Clean Tubes Are Money!!

Tubes of various sizes and function run through all modern day buildings and equipment. Clogged tubes mean decreased performance and efficiency. Dirty tubes are also credited as a determining factor in unhealthy indoor environments.

Dirty tubes can increase fuel consumption by 6-20%. It is documented that a tube with a mere 1/8" coating of build-up will transfer roughly 1/2 the heat of a clean surface, thus creating a significant loss in efficiency. In addition, no repair is costlier or more time consuming than a tube failure.

Over time, all tubes wll build some kind of deposit, such as mud, silicates, sulfates, carbonates, calcium, organic growths, etc. All act as insulators and must be removed to prevent clogging. In addition, many of these deposits are highly corrosive and can damage the tubes.

Most manufacturers recommend all tubes be cleaned annually, and Eddy Current Analysis be performed every 3-5 years. The Eddy Current test also allows assessment of wear trends so that potential holes do not become leaks.

There are many methods and a variety of tools used in cleaning tubes. The size and type of tube determines whether and internal or external cleaning is required. If you are in doubt, contact the equipment manufacturer, or Advanced Air Services for assistance.

Keep in mind that solidified scale will eventually cause tube failure and a loss of efficiency. Regular tube cleaning is one preventive measure that will definitely pay off in the end.
